Freerider Baby Sling Review

Freerider Slings are simply perfect for newborns. The lightest baby wrap on the market, they’re super breathable, silky-soft and ultra-supportive for newborns. They’ve been tried and tested by our expert team, and the families we work with.

Here’s what you need to know…

PERFECT FROM DAY ONE – SO YOUR BABY CAN GO FROM WOMB TO WRAP!

Freerider Baby Slings are weight tested from 8lbs- 30lbs, but realistically they are best from day one until 3-6 months. You’ll likely still use it for naps and indoor cuddles for much longer, but as your growing baby gets more wiggly, you’ll want to move onto a more supportive carrier, without any stretchiness, for everyday use.

In our experience, so long as you carefully follow the TICKS safety guidance for babywearing, it *may* be perfectly suitable from babies from 5lbs upwards.

TIE THE FREERIDER SLING ON… AND LEAVE IT ON ALL DAY!

Like all stretchy wraps, the Freerider Sling is a long (approx 5 metres) piece of fabric that you wrap around yourself and pre-tie before putting in your baby. It needs to be worn tightly, with your baby held snug and high up on your chest (so the top of their head is easy to kiss). You can then take your baby out, and pop them back in again, without needing to undo or re-tie the wrap. So one less thing to think about!

*THE* MOST LIGHTWEIGHT STRETCHY WRAP – AND THE MOST SUSTAINABLE

Freerider Slings are made from silky-soft Tencel fabric. This environmentally-friendly fabric is made from sustainably-sourced eucalyptus trees. It’s soft, silky and strong, much thinner and lighter than conventional cotton-blend stretchy wraps. Produced from wood pulp from sustainably managed tree farms, the fibres are compostable and biodegradable, with a much lower carbon footprint than traditional fabrics.

THE FREERIDER SLING OFFERS FIRMER SUPPORT THAN MANY OTHER STRETCHY WRAPS

Stretchy wraps either stretch width ways and length ways (‘2-way stretchies’)  like the Hana, Boba, Coracor and Izmi Wraps; or one direction only, generally width ways (‘1-way stretchies’) – like the Freerider.

Two-way stretchies tend to be more ‘bouncy’ and accommodating whereas the Freerider offers more firm support. If 2 way stretchies are like leggings, the Freerider is more like a pair of jeggings!

It might therefore take you a few practices to get the tightness of the Freerider *perfectly* right (not too tight, not too loose); but once after a few times you’ll be a pro. Just like tying your shoelaces.

OH… AND THEY’RE RIDICULOUSLY BEAUTIFUL

In case you hadn’t noticed (and I know you have) they come in a stunning range of colour and designs. So yes, you might need more than one 🙂
