Types of Slings and Carriers
There are so many slings and carriers to choose from, it can be hard to know which is the right one for you. There is no one sling that is the comfiest, easiest or quickest. Choosing one is a lot like choosing shoes or a bra; it’s all about personal preference, a good fit and it’s worth trying on before you buy!
An important consideration when choosing a sling or carrier is the age of your child and how long you want the sling or carrier to last. Many are marketed as suitable for babies of all ages. But if you are buying for a newborn, then you may well find the ideal sling for this age won’t fit a heavy toddler quite so well. For toddlers, you might want something quick and easy as they alternate between walking and wanting to be carried.
Your choice of sling will depend on your budget. Both new and second-hand slings and carriers can range from as little as £15 to £150 or more. Your choice will also depend on who else will be using it, as you may want a sling that can be quickly and easily adjusted for wearers of different shapes and sizes; and when and where you’ll be using it, such as on long walks or just for quick up-and-downs at home.
Here is a summary of the main types, and our recommendations to help you choose. Many of our favourite slings are available to buy from our shop. If you’d like more help or to try before you buy then feel free to contact us for a chat.
