Our all-time bestselling baby carriers are the Ergobaby Omnis. This superb range of carriers really does live up to the hype and they’re THE choice for many new parents looking for a multi-position carrier. Their thoughtful design is optimised both for babies’ and parents comfort, make them brilliantly supportive. Their bucket-shaped seat makes them the most ergonomic carriers on the market for carrying your baby in an outwards facing position.

We love the Ergobaby Omni 360 and the more breathable mesh version, the Ergobaby Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh. Last year Ergobaby released the latest version of the Omni, the Ergobaby Omni Breeze – which quickly because our new favourite thanks to it’s slimline design and soft-touch fabric. The new Omni Dream is essentially identical to the awesome Ergobaby Omni Breeze, with the same shape, features and functions: it’s just made of brushed cotton fabric instead of the Breeze’s airy mesh material.

Here’s what else you need to know…

HOW IS THE DREAM DIFFERENT TO THE OTHER ERGOBABY OMNI BABY CARRIERS?

The Omni Dream has basically all the same features and functions as the other Omni baby carriers. Aside from the fabric, it’s literally the same as the Ergobaby Omni Breeze. It’s also very similar to the Omni 360 and the Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh, but with a few helpful improvements:

  • Gives a better fit for ‘true’ newborns so you really can use it from baby’s first days
  • Body panel has a more streamlined shape, making it look and feel a little neater
  • Less bulky, more contoured shoulder straps are sewn at a slightly different angle, offering a better fit for petite mums who may otherwise struggle with the bulk and heftiness of the other Omnis
  • These contoured straps also stop them from eating/digging into your armpits, especially for broader and curvier parents
  • Additional side pockets integrated into the waistband

Any downsides?

  • Not many!
  • The Omni Dream (like the Omni Breeze) works marginally less well than the other Omnis, due to the (clever but rather pointless) new tri-lock safety buckles that connect the straps to the body panel. Also, because the shoulder straps are more contoured, they may not side quite as neatly accross your back when crossed. But for most people, neither of these things will be a big deal (I’m just being a mega geek here).
  • When worn in outwards facing mode (4-10months), the bucket shaped seat is SLIGHTLY less deep, meaning that VERY chunky babies may be – again, very slightly – better supported in the Ergobaby Omni 360 Cool Air Mesh.

SO OVERALL, IS IT A BETTER CARRIER THAN THE OTHER ERGOBABY OMNIS?

Yes, but overall I slightly prefer the breathable airy fabric of the Omni Breeze. There’s not much in it though!

ERGOBABY OMNI DREAM IS ADJUSTABLE FROM NEWBORN

The adjustable body panel means the Ergobaby Omni Dream doesn’t need the thick, cumbersome newborn insert of the much older ‘All Position’ 360 models. It’s safety tested as suitable from 7lbs (3.2kg) and it genuinely is great for almost all babies of that weight, so you can use it from baby’s first days.

My top tip: When carrying your newborn, make sure the carrier’s waistband is tightly positioned high up on your torso, under your breasts/around the bottom of your ribs – otherwise the body panel will feel too big for them

Remember, here at Wear My Baby we offer a free video fit check with every carrier purchase. So we can make sure you and your baby are safe, comfy and perfectly fitted!

IT WILL LAST YOU UNTIL YOUR LITTLE ONE IS AT LEAST 1.5YRS

The Omni Dream’s body panel gets wider (adjusting with the clever Velcro tabs on the inside of the waistband) and taller (using the top set of buttons). This means will last until your baby is at least 1.5 (unless they’re extra tall) – and you could get away with carrying a 2-year-old in it too, albeit for shortish periods.

Like the Omni Breeze, it’s safety tested to 45lbs (20kg) – that’s 5kg more than the easrly Omni carriers – but remember a comfy fit is determined by baby’s height, your shape, and both of your carrying preferences, rather than just your baby or toddlers’ weight. As all the Omnis have essentially the same size body panel, we’d say they’re all realistically best up to 2yrs max.

THE OMNI DREAM HAS ERGONOMIC OUTWARDS FACING (‘FORWARDS FACING’) AND BACK CARRYING OPTIONS

Like all the Omnis, you can carry your baby outwards facing in the Dream. But babies should only be carried in this position once they have full head, neck and upper body control, usually from around 4 months. Many parents enjoy having their baby facing outwards, but remember this outwards position isn’t essential. By around 10-11 months your baby will start to feel heavy in this position (in any carrier). At this point, you’ll want to try popping them on your bac (from 6months+) or have them facing you again with one or both of their arms are above the top of the carrier so they don’t feel restricted.

LOTS OF HANDY EXTRAS

The extra-wide integrated lumbar support pad will give some relief to wearers with lower back issues. The removable zip-up pouch on the waistband is big enough to store your keys and phone and even a small nappy! There’s also a wind- and sun-proof sleep hood, tucked away into a zipped pocket, which attached onto the shoulder straps; ideal for naptimes and windy or sunny days.

WHICH ADD-ONS ARE WORTH IT?

I can’t recommend the Ergobaby Drool Pad enough, to stop any rubbing on your baby’s face, especially when they’re teething – and to protect the carrier from drool and cut down on your laundry! The pop-on all weather cover is super helpful extra if you don’t have a babywearing coat.
