Beco Gemini Cool Baby Carrier Review

The Beco Gemini has been around for years; it’s newest incarnation the Gemini Cool has air mesh fabric and all sorts of nifty updates we’ve been simply dying to try. Here’s our review of the latest evolution of this classic carrier.

The Beco Gemini carrier has always been one of our go-to structured carriers to use from newborn. It’s lightly padded body panel and easy adjustments make it feel supportive and simple to use, even for new parents with babies from around 3.5kg (7.5lbs).

The Beco Gemini is really fantastic for front carrying; in the front carry position, it fits mums, dads and babies of all shapes and sizes. In addition, it offers world facing, hip and back carrying positions once your baby is a little older.

Whilst it’s not the largest sized carrier, it offers comfortable carrying for most babies up to at least 10-12 months, or a little longer for more petite babies. The Beco Gemini is a neat, versatile, adaptable carrier that’s a firm favourite with many families.

The new Cool version has a host of tweaks and improvements to the older Cool model that we’re really enjoying.

Easy to use buckles. The older versions had 3-point buckles with a push-button mechanism which, while very secure, could be fiddly to use. The new buckles are super easy!

Dual adjustable straps. This means that you can adjust the fit of the carrier by pulling either forwards or backwards – you simply use whichever strap is easiest for you.

Light and Breathable. The cool air mesh fabric is light and airy to wear, giving the whole carrier a more weightless feel. Perfect for summer! The new Beco Gemini Cool also has much softer padding on the waistband and even lighter padding on the shoulders, which helps the carrier to contour comfortably around your body giving a snug custom fit.

New sternum strap adjuster. The new, sliding sternum strap adjuster looks the part and makes it easier to get a good fit, especially for back carrying.

So who do we recommend the Beco Gemini Cool to? Based on our experience, this carrier is really great for:

Carrying newborns. Whilst this carrier won’t be the best for toddler carrying, it really is super simple, supportive and neat to use from newborn. It’s easily adjustable seat size and head support give an excellent fit for the smallest babies. This makes it easy and safe to use early on, giving you the confidence to get hands free and active with your baby.

Older babies. It’s not just great for newborns; it’s also particularly good for curious 3-6-month-olds and will grow with your baby for up to 12-18 months. If you find you want to keep carrying after that, there are many great options to move on to that will carry your toddler such as the JPMBB Physiocarrier or the Manduca XT.

Baby carrier for hot weather. If you’re looking for a supportive structured carrier for hot weather babywearing then the Beco Gemini Cool is perfect. Just the level of reassuring padding you need to need, with light breathable air mesh fabrics to keep you and baby comfortable.

Well the Beco Gemini Cool also has a nifty pocket in the waistband for small essentials and comes in a tasteful range of colours.

If you’d like a soft snuggly sling for around the house with a newborn then the Gemini may be too structured for you.

If you want your carrier to last for as long as possible then an even more adjustable option like the Manduca XT or Tula Free to Grow will offer greater longevity.

Realistically, we don’t see many people using Geminis for back carrying bigger babies as there are better options for this. However, what the Gemini does well – supportive, easy front carrying from newborn – it really does do brilliantly.
